It has been rightly said, “You’re always going to wonder if you’re doing things wrong, but that’s what it means to be a mom, to care so much about someone else that you just want to be as perfect as possible.”

From the very first time you feel your baby kick around in your stomach, to the gruelling yet irreplaceably beautiful experience of giving birth, to sleepless nights and the countless times that you had to give up so much of yourselves, motherhood is an amazing yet difficult journey. What makes it all worth it, is the million eureka moments that continue to amaze every single time your child does something new or says something so adorable that your heart just melts and the entertaining moments you get to share with them. Being a mother is the best feeling.

There are no handbooks to being a perfect mom and no ‘rights’ or ‘wrongs’. Every day is a learning process. While the journey of motherhood can have its ups and downs and moments where we feel we want to just give up, the key is to keep going and to try and enjoy every moment as we do. At the end of the day, being a mother means we look back to see our little one and realize that we were responsible for moulding her into the strong and confident little adult that she is, it will all be worth it!

We have put down some parenting tips to help you ease into motherhood and to make the process more joyful.

Comparing yourself to other moms is never a win-win situation

The picture-perfect version that we often see on different social media channels of an impeccably dressed mom doing everything with her always well-behaved children is not real. We are all different in our own ways and have our very own set of strengths and weaknesses. Remember that you are not other moms. You are YOU!

You are perfect just the way you are!

You are always going to wonder if you are doing the right thing or taking the right step. We are often our own enemy. But while you do have your moments of doubt, remember being a mother means to never lose faith in yourself, trust your journey and believe that whatever the situation, you are doing your very best. Being a mother is the best feeling!

4 Hands are better than 2!

Asking for help when you need it does not make you any less a mother, does it? Don’t we all ask for help when we need it? Then why is it any different when we become a mom and need a few extra hands to make sure our little one gets all the love and attention needed. Mommies, you do not have to carry all the burdens of bringing up your little ones, just on your shoulders. Being a mother means it’s ok to ask for help whenever it is needed or to not refuse it when it is offered. As a family, you need to make choices together.

‘Me’ Time – Just what you need from time to time

Very rare in the land of motherhood, ‘me’ time helps keep you charged. Here are a few ways to make sure you get some of it:

  • Reading a book quietly or listening to your favourite tunes makes you feel so relaxed, doesn’t it?
  • Taking a couple of hours off every week and away from the baby can do wonders and helps you get back recharged and happy.
  • Our lives often tend to revolve around the little one, but it doesn’t have to. A nice romantic date with your husband can do both of you a world of good and can also give you both the must needed break that you need to recharge.
  • There is nothing as fun as a ‘girl’s night out’, don’t you think?
Including frequent power naps in your daily routine is a great way to ensure that you are not exhausted and tired at all times.

Adjusting to motherhood can be challenging and hard. However, all that matters at the end of the day is that you are there for them. In the process of being the ‘best mom’ there is, also remember not to lose yourself, your identity and all that is important to you. The key is to learn how to balance the things that make you happy with the things that are important for your little one.

To all the mothers out there, being a mother means that you are doing the best you can and that in the eyes of your little ones, you will always be their supermom!

So take a deep breath, find ways to connect with your inner calm and enjoy this beautiful journey called motherhood! Being a mother is the best feeling!
